OPEN SOURCE JEWELRY

OPEN CALL

A5 would like to formally invite you to submit a CAD model for our new project – OPEN SOURCE JEWELRY (OSJ) that will be exhibited at the 6th European Triennial of Contemporary Jewelry as a collaborative A5 project.

Dead line for submitting Cad files for the 6th European Triennial of Contemporary Jewelry is Friday the 18th of August. Submit your files to OPENSOURCE@AFIVE.SE

OSJ is project that deals with the idea of the digital asset as a fluid form of creativity. Files of any size and complexity can be shared and manipulated, eliminating geographical boundaries. OSJ is about the understanding of the internet as its own territory for the freedom of sharing ideas. Scale and volume are nonexistant in the digital realm – CAD models are not limited by resolution – the printing process determines the fidelity of any given model as well as its material characteristics. OSJ seeks to create a level field of understanding by representing each unique model in standard PLA plastic, in a maximum scale of 100 x 100 x 100 mm.

A5 is in the process of creating a new project that deals with the idea of 3d digital assets and online sharing culture. We’re looking to create a library of digital models that will be printed and displayed at a variety of exhibitions and locations.

We are looking to create a model library from just about anyone who has a digital 3d asset. – ANYTHING GOES.

Your model will be printed in plastic and displayed in a the traveling exhibition the 6th European Triennal of Contemporary Jewellery in Mons Belgium.

Requirements:

– A solid 3d model in STL format
– Your name (or avatar, or alias, or whatever) and your geographic location

By submitting your model you agree to allow A5 to manipulate your model and and use it as we see fit in a professional context. As implied by the title, we’re looking to create a culture of sharing within the field of craft and applied art.

Aeon profit – Piano forte

Aeon profit – Piano forte

2010

An installation made up of several hundred individual pieces of jewelry, all created from a single Piano. The initial concept, a reaction to the lifespan of a valuable object, began when A5 obtained a standup piano via a private donation. The group then reduced the elements that constructed the piano into creative expressions which manifested themselves as unique jewelry objects.

A5 was formed in 2008 with the idea of connecting three artists whom shared a similar vision. Annika Pettersson, Romina Fuentes, and Adam Grinovich met while studying at the Adellab/metalformgivning department at Konstfack University. Each member maintains a career as a professional artist in the field of contemporary jewelry. A5 has since served as a forum for creative discussion and international cross-disciplinary collaboration.

A5 has worked on a variety of projects with the main goal of establishing connections with as many diverse fields as possible. It is extremely important for A5 to promote work to a large audience, collectively and individually we feed off of the viewpoint of the viewer, the relationship between objects, images, and individuals.
